Listening Skills

I got my hair cut today.

The guy who does it is an old friend from my church days.

He's still heavily involved in the church; my involvement is very low these days.

He was telling me about the diversity of religious backgrounds that attend his church.

People from different denominations gather under one roof worship together.

They are a mix of Baptists, Pentecostals, and others.

If you know anything about these groups, Baptists and Pentecostals have some very different beliefs on minor issues.

And even though they are minor, they cause huge divisions between the two denominations.

But they make it work.

How?

They openly discuss their differences without getting offended that someone has a different idea about a topic than they do.

That's amazing in our culture.

And we could all learn from that.
